About This Course

The purpose of the Working at Heights Awareness Training Course is to develop the candidates knowledge on the requirements of the working at heights regulation so the will be able to assess the relevant risk within their own working environment and be able to select the most appropriate equipment as per their organisations safe systems of work, also how to identify faults and report these accordingly, the course is suitable for managers, supervisors and operatives who may be required to work below, at or above ground level.

Who should attend

This course is aimed at anyone who may be required to work or supervise others working at height or who needs familiarisation with the necessary regulations and control measures to meet the hierarchy of control for working at heights.

Duration: 3 – 4 Hours

Delivery

This is a classroom-based course with demonstrations and tutorials. It also includes a theory exercise in the inspection and selection of equipment. This course can be adapted to suit the client’s requirements. Training can be delivered on site using the client’s training room or at a convenient, suitable location.

Course Aims

The aim of this course is to provide the necessary training to be able to work in line with the Work at Height Regulations. The delegates will understand and follow the hierarchy for managing risks from work at heights and take the necessary steps to avoid, prevent and minimise those risks.

On completion of this training, delegates will be able to:
Demonstrate an understanding of the Work at Height Regulations
Understand the legal requirements and responsibilities of working at height
Identify the nature and causes of hazards
Understand the duties required of a responsible person
Demonstrate work at height equipment inspections

Regulations and legislation of Work at Height
Identifying causes of hazards when working at height
Implementation of the hierarchy of control
Scaffold, Towers and MEWP safe working practices
Work at height alternatives, including low level work equipment
Equipment selection and inspection procedures
Duties of responsible person
Theory test

If a candidate has been paid grant for a particular course in a lifetime, they will not be eligible for grant again for the same course, unless it has specific refresher standards published on the short duration course register.

If refresher course standards do exist for a particular course, then only one refresher is grant eligible in a lifetime for each candidate.
